Short Story Australia
Australia is just a real blast, a country full of interesting things, foreignness, colours and contrast- unique on this world. The light- green wide wilderness, the lush green rain forest, blue mountains, shimmering water, white beaches and the red earth of the Outback. It is summer here instead of winter, the constellations are up side down and the water of the toilet bowl turns the other way around. 80 % of all local animals and plants exist only there. Contrast - that is Australia.
Australia itself is an older country than it seems at a first glance. For 60 million years Australia has not changed at all, geologically speaking and could therefore conserve a lot of things that were ever discovered on earth- the most ancient rocks and fossils, earliest traces of animals and riverbeds, even the first slight signs of life. The fauna is as strange as it would be of a never- never land. The duckbill is laying eggs and lactates its young ones. Here the longest earthworm of the world (about 3 m) is living and the „flying fox” seems to be a crossbreed of a squirrel and a gigantic bat. Beside „cuddly koalas“ and kangaroos you find the most dangerous killer of the fauna here. By naming sharks, saltwater- and freshwater crocodiles, venomous snakes and spiders, baneful jellyfishes only a few are mentioned.
Australia is the sixth biggest country of the world and the largest island. It is the only island, that is a continent at the same time and it is the only continent that is a country. There are about 21 million people living in this vastness, 90 % of them at the seaside because it is nicer to live there and here are the few mega cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide that are clean and secure.
The first people arrived here 50 thousand years ago and no one knows how they did it! Not until 200 years ago a second migration happened here. They were convicts from England. 50 years ago people from all over the world came here. The today’s Aussie can be described as a surfing buddy with the friendly, funny guy smile and he wears knee-length socks and shorts at a certain age. The people are pleasant, happy, extrovert, quick at repartee and always courteous. Get on a taxi in the back and you will notice a bewildered gaze of the taxi driver. Here you sit down in front. The food is excellent and the beer is cold. You would love it!
For a honeymoon in Australia a round trip by a rented car or a journey with a motorhome. There is just to much to see. Wonderful mountains and one of the worlds` largest panorama routes at the coastline in Victoria; the most lively mega city of Australia, Sydney; subtropical climate, long and sandy beaches in New South Wales; tropical rainforests, a unique flora, dream beaches and the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland; pure wilderness in the world of „Crocodile Dundee“ und the emblem of Australia, the biggest monolith of the world, in the Northern Territory; the austere beauty of the Kimberley’s and lonesome, windy beaches in Western Australia; mountain chains and a lot of loneliness in South Australia.
Australia is the driest, hottest, most parched, most plain, most barren and climatically most aggressive of all inhabited continents. Do not get lost in the Outback; it is no Disneyland for adults but one of the last adventures and paradises in our time. Believe us, Australia is a real blast!
