Short Story Bali
Bali – island of deities and demons and so much more.
This island in the Indian ocean in the chain of the small Sunda Islands, located 2000 km north- east wards of Australia does not only have a lot to offer to honeymooner. There are only a few locations on earth that show a comparable manifoldness and none is like Bali. The architecture and the interior of Balinese houses, mainly by looking at the resorts and hotels, are copied world wide. Here you find the originals, dream villas, and chalets embedded in an unbelievable beautiful nature. If you wish you can have your own private pool and a dreamlike view for an unbeatable price/performance ratio. You have the choice.
Uncountable dream resorts that can definitely be described as the honeymoon destination are to be found all over the island. Not only Hilton, Ritz- Carlton or the Four Seasons compete tout for your favour. We think that the smaller boutique-resort on Bali have their own special charm.

Which location you choose depends on your personal likes and dislikes. If beach life, wave boarding, shopping and vivid high-class nightlife should belong to your honeymoon then you are right in Kuta or Legian, the old main touristy locations. If you favour a relatively sterile, clean and calm surrounding, of course situated at the sea, too, Nusa Dua or Sanur are the right places to go. You are interested in art and trade, you want to explore the old Bali and don’t need the sea then you should stay in Ubud and the area around it. Here you will find the untouched, original Balinese life in small villages that are surrounded by rice terraces.
Further north volcanoes grow out of the thick green and black lava beaches get slowly lost in the deep blue sea. By night you in companionship with a guide can walk up to the peak of the still active volcano Batur. Enjoy the sunset with a hot cup of coffee in your hand and a view over the Batu Crater Lake. At the horizon you will see the wide extensions of the Bukit- peninsula. You will never forget this moment in your whole life.

There are so many things to adventure on Bali. Watch the dolphins in the north at the lava beaches, undertake a wild- water- rafting tour, visit the Bali- Bird- Park, go surfing at world class spots like Uluwatu, Green Ball or Padang Padang, that are all situated in the south of the Bukit- peninsular. Explore your dream beach because there are so many beaches on Bali that one could write a whole book on them. Our hint is the Dreamland beach. Ask a local and let yourself flow ;-)
Speaking of locals, the Balinese are friendly, open and want to cut a deal at least 20 times a day mainly in the tourist areas. Religion plays a big role on the island of Goddesses and demons. The Bali- Hinduism is unique. There are more temples than beaches and those are difficult to count. Festivities are celebrated often and elaborate. Foreigners are very welcome of course but respect and tolerance as well as appropriate clothes should be common as everywhere else.

In October 2002 Bali was in the catch- lines as Islamic fanatics ignited to bombs in the centre of Kuta which took the life of 209 people. The targets of the terrorist were tourists from the West. Most of the victims were Australians. The people on Bali were shocked and the consequences were not long in coming. The flow of tourists stayed off and the economy broke down. Poverty and rising criminality were the consequences. By now the situation has stabilized. However, for the Balinese people a new calculation of time has started. A lot of sentences uttered by the Balinese start with: „After the bomb...“. Since 2002 we have been to Bali twice and didn’t make any bad experiences concerning criminality. The tourism is calmer as before which will not be noticed by a first- time arrival in Kuta. Bali is a dream destination and absolutely proper for the honeymoon. We would still like to point out to you the potentially existing danger of a possible further assault. In the meantime, this might exist at home as well.
Normally you can get to Bali, may it be all- inclusive as well as individually, by aeroplane from Europe. You pay about 900 Euro for a flight from Amsterdam to Denpasar e.g. with Singapore or British Airlines. Vendors of all- inclusive trips often offer the same price including hotel and food, even though we regard those shelters improper for a wedding tour. For an unforgettable honeymoon we recommend a search for your deluxe bungalow in the internet. Have look at our Hotel Overview maybe the right one is already there. The prices of the resorts are mainly guidelines and negotiable at a longer sojourn. Everything is possible – on the islands of deities and demons.
