Short Story Fiji

Paradisiacal, unique and unsearched – the Fiji-Islands have miles long, sparkling white and deserted sandy beaches, azure lagoons, crystal clear water and fabulous coral gardens, green shining hills, thick rain forests and really amiable people.

More than any other place on earth, Fiji stands for exotic. When curious dolphins jump up high next to your boat at full speed, colourful birds tumble from high trees and hover above the rain forest and when you hear the laughter of children to the sound of the Lali- drum and the necklace of shells or a floral wreath is put around your neck following the South Seas tradition – than Fiji welcomes you.

Here on Fiji your find a tropical climate and the temperatures alternate from 20 to 30 degree Celsius. Fiji is an island that consists of about 350 islands of which about 100 are inhabited and the area is located about 2500 km to the east of Australia in the middle of the Pacific. The big islands that you will find instantly in every good atlas are of volcanic origin with an accordant manifold cliffy landscape. The smaller islands are coral islands – here you can experience the South Seas pure.

In the south east of the island state the scenery is dominated by tropical rain forest due to the tropical- damp climate in combination with the trade winds. The north west with its low precipitation you find rather wet savannahs. At the coastline you come upon dream beaches with coconut palms and mangroves. The flora and fauna are typically tropical – there are beautiful butterflies and bothersome mosquitoes, more than 300 different kinds of orchids, fantastic colourful birds and here and there a constrictor. The latter is not to be found on the coral islands and on the settled areas ;-) therefore don’t worry!

Real manifoldness you can experience underwater. There are a lot of possibilities for diving and snorkelling is almost everywhere possible. Generally does the way of life go very easy and relaxed here. Change down two gears; everything goes after Fiji time here.

By the way language, if you don’t speak any Fiji, what we simply assume, you get along with English which also is an official language, very well. The people on Fiji are Melanesian and Indians. The Indians were brought to Fiji by the British to work on the plantations in colonial times and numerously immigrated in the following years. Both ethnic groups form 50 % of the population and there is no love lost between them. That does not change anything about the hostility which is really heartfelt. If you want, the islanders offer you with pleasure a deeper insight into their culture - further away from the big cities the more. It is an experience to take once part at a Kava ceremony and you maybe want to say your wedding vows following the Fiji tradition. You will hear Bula, the Fiji word for Hello, how are you; about 100 times a day.

Where to go on Fiji in your honeymoon? We think this should depend on your personal imagination of a honeymoon. You want to see as much as possible from Fiji? - then you should book a nice hotel on Viti Levu, the main island, for two or three days in order to recover from the 24 to 40 hour flight marathon. Rent a hire car and go on a discovery tour. Sights should be described well enough in your tourist guide. You should find sufficient accommodations at fantastic places (at Christmas you should book ahead).

You want a honeymoon deluxe or a bungalow mode of natural materials on a small island with a Robinson feeling – on Fiji no problem! In our Hotel Overview you will find the best resorts and hotels on Fiji. Just book, simple and cost-saving, via internet to cut out the middleman. The excellent valued flights and a corresponding class offer Air France and some American Airlines.

Visit the biggest volcanic island for hiking through tropical woods, on high mountains or at solitary waterfalls. For golfing, stay on Viti Levu. You can surf on the highest wave Cloud break with a height up to 6 meters ahead of Tavarua. The best windsurf- and kite spots are located ahead of Plantation Island, Namotu Island, Mana Island, Beachcomber Island, Turtle Island and of course ahead of Viti Levu. The most beautiful locations for diving are around Kadavu at the Great Astrolabe Reef, around Tavenui at the Rainbow Reef, close to the Mamanuca Islands, at the Yasawa Islands and all around the main islands Vanue Lovu and Viti Levu. Far out in the Lau archipelago you can still experience the South Seas as it was 50 years ago. Those islands however, are difficult to reach and the few existing accommodations a on a backpacker basis.

Fiji is a special location. Here the locals still wear flowers in the hair because they like it and not to impress the tourists. Should you choose Fiji for your honeymoon, stay longer! Otherwise the long and slaughterous travel does not pay off. The best time to travel there is from May to October because then it is warm and not to hot there.

Everything is offered culinary, in the hotels rather American and off-site rather Indian and Chinese. Just try the Polynesian Lova-meat wrapped in banana leaves, halfway grilled and halfway smoked. The local beer Fiji Bitter tastes really good and over all does Fiji have the best price-performance ratio. Enjoy inner peace and serenity – experience one of the last paradises!
