Short Story Las Vegas
Las Vegas - City of superlatives in the wide desert of Nevada. Nowhere else in the world than here do more people get married. Why? - Because for just a few dollars you can get married and the whole process is extremely un-bureaucratic. Then still a few days in one of the most exciting cities in the world, a little thrill and entertainment – Viola! you are married and you had a really unforgettable trip. For pairs that really don’t want to get married in large elaborate family surroundings or those that are getting married for the 2nd or 3rd time, Las Vegas is THE destination. But Las Vegas is also a top target for a completely normal honeymoon, or also for the starting point of a west coast road trip.
Las Vegas is simply Disneyland for grow-ups. Here you get offered everything and you will see and experience things that are just unique. With Las Vegas you first associate it as a first place with gamblers and as a gambler paradise. But the city has many other things to offer. Here there are next to Dubai, the most splendid and expensive hotel buildings in the world. A real homage for all those that admire mammon – then here everything is just about money.

As you stroll over the “strip” in the evening, south of the Sahara Avenue and you breathe in the warm dry air, the Las Vegas City of Light will pull you into its orbit. Thousands of colourful blazing advertising-boards ostentatious floodlit hotels and casinos, more imaginative neon signs and in-between palm trees, artificial waterfalls and fountains. First class entertainment awaits you in every large luxury hotel. In the Luxor Hotel, a 30 story pyramid of bronze glass, you can take a journey on the Nile, or travel through time into the past or the future. In the world-wide re-known Mirage Hotel an enormous artificial volcano erupts every 2 minutes. In the Hotel Paris you encounter an exact replica of the Eiffel Tower and in the Hotel New York you can wander through a mini-Manhattan. Every large hotel complex has a different theme and attractions.

Sweep into first class international restaurants and enjoy an elaborate Show or a WM box-fight in one of the Mega-Hotels. Discover any number of bars and you must absolutely visit a Casino! In Las Vegas just about any kind of game-of-luck is allowed. The halls with the one-arm-bandits and gaming tables are just enormous in size, ostentatious and really impressive. A small tip: Set yourself a stop-loss-limit, before you become influenced by alcohol. Take your budget for the evening with you and in the best case time lock your credit cards away ;-)
During the day the desert city also has much to offer. Directly on the strip lies the Water Pleasure Park “Wet n’ Wild”, a little further the Museum of Natural History and in Lorenzi Park the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society and apart from that in the down-town Casino Centre, there is the Ripley’s Museum.

Sportingly it carries on further with golf courses of the best category and in over dimensional fitness temples which you can find everywhere. In the Palace spas you can let your spirit and body dangle.
From Las Vegas you can reach the Grand Canyon and Death Valley better than from any other large American city. Lake Mead National Recreation Area lie close by as well as the enormous Hoover Dam. That you will more than likely use a rental car to visit these tourist attractions, and you also should use it, you could at the same time also drive to visit the little further distant Yosemite National Park and experience a magnificent countryside with waterfalls higher than 300m and 1000m high granite walls on the edge of a lushes green alpine valley with gigantic redwood trees, that could not be a larger contrast to Las Vegas. Don’t let yourself be put off by the large distances. In States like Nevada and California other yardsticks apply.

If you just want to hang around in Las Vegas you don’t really need a rental car. Parallel to the Las Vegas Boulevard is the Las Vegas Monorail, a kind of Transrapid or Sky Train. With this you can reach all of the important hotels, attractions and city tourist-sights. A single journey costs 5 US$, a 10er card costs 35 US$ and a daily card costs 5 US$. Travel is possible from 07:00 till 02:00 and on week-ends till 03:00 hours in the night. After that it’s only possible to travel using a cab.
By the choice of hotels you really are spoilt for choice. We recommend that you either choose according to a theme or a budget. You can find recommended hotels from economic to exorbitantly expensive in our hotel overview. Of course it is also possible to make a find in one of the well known relevant large general travel agents. The flight costs with Delta Air from Amsterdam begin at ca. 450 Euros. You should take with you your credit card as a general method of payment.
