Short Story Maui
Maui’s diversity appears behind every curve, behind every mountain or hill and it will becharm you! Drive up to the caldera of the Haleakala volcano into a moonlike surrounding and almost touch the sun at an altitude of 3055m. Come down to earth again and enjoy 75km of dream beaches. Explore windy panorama streets to Hana, pass waterfalls and tropical forests and discover the small and historical town of whaling, Lahaina. The wonders of Maui are never ending – from whale watching to golfing, from surfing on the largest waves of the world to the jungle without dangerous spiders, snakes and other frightening creatures, from award-winning restaurants to dreamlike hotels and apartments.
There is an upper price range on Maui and your budget should be able to bear quite a lot. Most of the food has to travel the long way from the mainland of the United States to Maui and are therefore more expensive. As a rule of thumb we would say: two times the prices of European petrol stations.
Maui in the US federal state of Hawaii has its own airport and is almost exactly located on the other side of the world. Midnight in Europe is high noon on Maui. Usually you reach the second largest island of the Hawaiian archipelago with an US airline. When you leave the airplane on the Kahului airport and take a deep breath of, you will instantly notice that it smells incredible good. (e.g. of flowers, the sea and ... simply paradisiacal!) The temperatures are constant all year round and are around 27 °C, with variations of 2 - 4 °C. The water of the Pacific is of equal temperature. The climate is a tropical one and pleasant due to its steady sea breeze. The precipitations vary heavily depending on the locality. In Kihei it is relatively dry but at the West Maui volcano it is bucketing down regularly.
Certainly offers the hired car the best way of exploring the island. Just put a towel, the snorkeling stuff, a couple of cool drinks, sun crème and the camera into the car and off you go to unknown destinations. Snorkel above an incredible beautiful reef, trek at the hillsides of West Maui or of the Haleakala volcano or discover one of the most gorgeous places on earth by helicopter. From the bird’s- eye view of the landscape, fascinating perspectives of the breathtaking coastal scenery will be presented to you. If you are a wind surfer, spots like Ho'okipa, Jaws, Lanes, Sprecksville, Kanaha don’t need any further explanation and description. We quote only Robby Naish: “Life is short. Make some time, grab the board, go on the water - We´ll see you there “.
You will be drawn into believing to be in a different world by an uncountable number of high waterfalls surrounded by an evergreen nature and odoriferous wild flowers. Believe it! Maui is different form all you know!
By the way, on Maui a word for romance does not exist in the Hawaiian language. The word hoonanea is the closest to the idea we express with this word. It means something like: to spend time together with enjoyment. If you come to Hawaii in search of romance, no matter whether because of your honeymoon or of your marriage you will find one thing for sure: a fantastic time in enjoyment with each other regardless of what you and your sweetheart do.
Every paradisiacal place on earth tries to copy the pictures of Hawaii that every one of us bears in mind. Now the original: Hula dancers with their swaying hips under fig trees with a serenade accompanied by guitar and ukulele, you and your partner on horseback at the beach in front of you blustering waves at a surge and the palm trees move in the blowing wind, or you two stroll along a white beach in the light of lanterns and flambeaus and the only witness is a large, quiet and orange moon.
Drown in the odour of the pinnated and at night- time blossoming jasmine. A lot is awaiting you on Maui and even more. Hawaii is a dream destination for pairs of newlyweds on their honeymoon. Maybe now you can sense why there is no word for romance in the Hawaiian language, because it is simply part of the every-day-life on Maui.
