Short Story St. Lucia
St. Lucia is the Caribbean dream that every traveller is dreaming – a small, copious tropical jewel that is still comparatively unknown.
It is one of the islands under the wind, situated centrical in the arc of pearls of the Lesser Antilles, between Martinique and St. Vincent and in the northwest of Barbados. St. Lucia is only 42 kilometres long and 20 kilometres wide and its form resembles a mango or an avocado depending on the approach.

The Atlantic Ocean kisses the eastern coast while the beaches of the west coast own their beauty to the Caribbean Sea. Due to her natural beauty St. Lucia seems like an island that was taken out of the South Seas and transplanted into the Caribbean Sea. This profuse green and the multiplicity of plants can not be overcome by any other Caribbean island. The outstanding lava dome at the south- west coast belong to the landmarks of the Caribbean. The Pitons ascend about 800m from the sea and are surrounded by thick rain forests where wild orchids bloom and birds of paradise flap their wings in between gigantic ferns. Tropical birds of luminous colours including endangered species, like the native St. Lucia parrot abound here. The rain forest is just interrupted by small fields and orchards where bananas, coconuts, mango and papayas ripe.

St. Lucia was long inhabited before colonial times descended and the cultural treasures of the island are a fascinating mixture of its sumptuous past with numerous different traditions. The indigenous, English speaking population owns a jovial and charming reputation that is deserved and indeed the best of the Caribbean. The island itself is peppered with old castles, small villages and Caribbean markets.
Everyone who is looking for a nightlife alá Barbados is at the wrong place, even though the weekly Friday- night- party accompanied by Soca & Reggae at the Rodney Bay with chains of lights, rum and grilled fish is a highlight by all means. There are some discos in the big hotels, too. Rather romantic people come to St. Lucia whose evenings finalize with an international or Creole cuisine and a pub- or bar visit afterwards.

There is a wide range of exciting and exotic activities that are possible to undertake on St. Lucia. The bold coast and the coral reefs that are located before offer excellent possibilities for snorkeling and diving. The protected rain forests of St. Lucia in the mountainous midland invite for hiking, mountain biking or the observation of birds. Of course offers St. Lucia excellent options for golf, tennis, see angling and sailing. In the south you find very good wind- and kite-surf conditions because of a special thermal; not forgetting St. Lucia’s volcano Soufriere, with the worldwide unique „drive in“ crater.

The wintertime is the high season although the temperature is always about 27 °C and it only fluctuates slightly. To get from A to B the minibus is a good value for money or you take the hired car that you fetch at the airport on your arrival. British Airways, Air Caraibes and BWIA fly from London for the time of 8 hours. You only need a passport that is at least valid for six month.
