Wedding Tips Seychelles
The dream of a South Pacific wedding is not only a dream. A wedding on the Seychelles is possible and it is not difficult to organize. On the Seychelles you will find a lot of excellent wedding agencies or you book an arrangement in a good hotel. You can also organize yourselves your wedding on the Seychelles.
In any case, you need the following documents translated into English and certified:
- Birth certificate
- Certificate of no marriage or certificate of no impediment
- If necessary divorce degree
- A copy of the first 4 pages of both passports (without translation)
At the latest two month before the wedding, you have to contact the register office in Victoria (Mahé) in written form (in English) about your intention to marry and the wish of time and location. Add the above mentioned documents and sent it to:
Civil Office
P.O. Box 1389
Victoria (Mahé)
Republic of Seychelles
The registry office will respond relatively quickly and confirm your desire or to propose other dates. Your wedding date should not be less than 7 days before the end of your stay on the Seychelles, because the arrangement of the Marriage Certificate with apostille needs some time. The Marriage Certificate needs one working day after your wedding, the certification by court (apostille) needs up to four days. Everything will be send to your hotel on the Seychelles. You require the apostille for the recognition of your wedding at your local registry office.
The place of marriage is either the registry office or your accommodation. In the case of last mentioned the wedding ceremony will be done in a beautiful garden or on the beach. It is also important to make a good choice concerning your accommodation, as well as appropriate arrangements in advance. We disadvise to marry in the registry office, because there is only a little flair and charm. Regardless where you will marry on the Seychelles, you need two full aged witnesses; it will be easy to find them on location!
Civil weddings on the Seychelles are also Christian ceremonies. If you insist on atheistic principles, you have to marry somewhere else. The wedding will be held in English language. Before the wedding you have to talk with the registrar if you only want to say “yes” or if you want to give you a promise of marriage. No shy – the registrar gives you the vow you have to repeat.
