Wedding Tips St. Lucia

St. Lucia is a unique destination for pairs that just married or those who want to tell each other the words of consent on the island. This tropical island of an exotic beauty is made for romantics and is the perfect place for your very special day.

Dream beaches lined by palm trees, friendly locals in a wonderful nature, elegant houses of the plantation- type of a different time period, rhythms from a band at the sea jingle over from afar mixed with an odour of Creole food by a light trade wind.

To marry on St. Lucia is relatively easy. You only have to sojourn here for a bare week before the marriage. After a two- day- stay on the island an attorney who is resident on St. Lucia can apply for a marriage license on your behalf. The minister of justice of the country needs the other four days in order to write out the marriage licence.

We advise you to consign a tour organiser to do the arrangements for you. Some of the hotels offer good wedding arrangements where it is taken care of the decoration, the wedding- cake, the floristry, the music as well as photos. The prices differ.

The fees consist of:

Charge of the notary ship & marriage license = 402.50 XCD - ca. 95 €
Charge of the register office = 100.00 XCD - ca. 24 €
Charge for the marriage certificate = 8.00 XCD - ca. 2 €

The following documents have to be brought along:

  • Passport and birth certificate
  • Widows/widowers the death certificate of the deceased spouse
  • The divorce decree in the case that one or both partners are divorced
  • Should one partner be under the age of 18 - an affirmation of the parents stamped by a notary is required
  • In case of a change of the name you need the according juridical statement
  • certified translations of every document that are not conceived in the English language

A church wedding is only possible for Catholics because the Protestantism is only sparely spread on the West Indies. For a wedding ceremony in a Catholic church your pastor has to get in contact with a local pastor to make sure that the required time of consultation ahead of the marriage ceremony is preserved and all necessary criterias for the marriage ceremony are fulfilled.

By the way, the beautiful Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in the centre of Castries, capital of St. Lucia is ideal for a Catholic wedding ceremony.

The pastor of this cathedral is: Father Theo
