For what is the wedding ring?
Here it is explained . . .

An agreement of two people is sealed by the exchange of two rings of the same form. Those are exchanged during a solemn promise of love. Afterwards they are worn and they represent the given promise.

There are often two connected rings presented as a symbol of marriage. The circular and closed form of the rings stands for love, eternity and affinity. Wedding rings are mainly manufactured from gold or platinum and at pleasure ennoble it with a diamond or gemstone.

The first name of the partner and the date of marriage are mostly engraved into the ring as a memory. As well do both names or short vows find their space on the ring!

Today many pairs often chose different marriage rings according to their own type of character. So the women mostly still have a ring with an included stone but the men’s ring often has a broader form. However, the decisive features like the ring form and design should be the same, because this symbolises that the pair belongs together.

Traditionally the wedding ring is worn on the right hand in middle Europe, for example in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. There are countries as well like the USA or Italy, where it is common to wear the ring on the ring finger of the left hand. Sometimes you can see a wedding ring on the left hand in Germany, too. No matter what you decide for you and your partner should definitely choose the same hand!

The wedding rings should be chosen together. You will wear them lifelong and therefore they should correspond the taste of both partners. Get the rings at least three month before the wedding ceremony so that there is still enough time for an engraving! Normally the groom pays for the rings but nowadays a lot of couples pay together.
